Perilia seed is used for cold phlegm conditions associated with copious phlegm and wheezing. It is most useful when there is a stuffy feeling in the chest causing a more labored exhalation rather than inhalation.

Perilla seed is also useful when there is constipation due to dryness in the intestines.

Perilla seed should not be used when there is diarrhea or cough due to weakness and deficiency.
